Introduction to the BMW
The BMW models covered by this manual are soundly constructed and mechanical components are engineered to fine limits. A buyer contemplating the purchase of one of these cars will be reassured by the knowledge that they are absolutely conventional in design and should cause no problems in overhaul or repair.
The cars are available in two or four-door Saloon versions, with manual or automatic transmissions. The manual gearboxes have four or five speeds, the five-speed boxes being available as Overdrive or Sport (close ratio) units. Automatic transmissions have three or four speeds.
Throughout the manual early E21 models are referred to as Series 1, while the later E30 models are termed Series 2. |
