Introduction to the Dodge Ram pick-up

Dodge Ram pick-ups are available in standard and quad-cab body styles. All cabs are single welded unit construction and bolted to the frame. Ram pick-ups are available in short-bed and long-bed models. All models are available in two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) versions. Powertrain options include a 5.9L inline six-cylinder diesel engine and 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8, 5.7L "Hemi" V8, 5.9L V8 and 8.0L V10 gasoline engines. Transmissions used are either a four-speed automatic, five-speed manual or six-speed manual.

Chassis layout is conventional, with the engine mounted at the front and the power being transmitted through either the manual or automatic transmission to a driveshaft and solid rear axle. On 4WD models a transfer case also transmits power to the front axle by way of a driveshaft. The front suspension on 2WD models features an independent coil spring, upper and lower A-arm type front suspension, while heavy duty 4WD models use coil springs and a solid axle located by four links. 4WD models with independent front suspension use torsion bars. All models have a solid axle and leaf springs at the rear.

All models are equipped with power assisted disc front and rear brakes. Rear Wheel Anti-Lock (RWAL) brakes are standard with a four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) used on some models.
