Introduction to the Holden Barina and Suzuki Swift
These models are available in a four-door hatchback body styles. The transversely-mounted inline four-cylinder engines used in these models are equipped with a carburettor. The engine drives the front wheels through a manual or automatic transaxle via independent driveaxles. Independent suspension, featuring coil springs and struts, is used at the front wheels. At the rear, a beam axle with leaf or coil springs and shock absorbers is used on early models, while later models have independent suspension with struts. The rack and pinion steering unit is mounted behind the engine. The brakes on most models are disc at the front and drums at the rear, with power assist standard.
Modifications are a continuing and unpublicized process in vehicle manufacturing. Since spare parts lists are complied on a numerical basis, the individual vehicle numbers are essential to correctly identify the components required.
