Introduction to the Holden Camira
The Camira JB Series models were first introduced in 1982, with 2.0 litre carburettor engines, and were superceded in 1984 by the JC Series models, with 1.8 litre fuel injection engines. In 1987, the JE Series models were introduced, with 2.0 litre fuel injection engines. The basic mechanical layout of all the Camira models covered by this manual is similar, the main differences being in the engines used and the body styling. Models were produced with 4-door sedan and station wagon body styles. The transversely-mounted in-line four-cylinder engines used in these models are all of similar design. The engine drives the front wheels through a four- or five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transaxle.
Fully independent front suspension is used, featuring MacPherson struts with coil springs and integral shock absorbers. The rear suspension is of semi-indpendent type, consisting of a torsion bar with trailing arms. The rack and pinion steering gear is mounted behind the engine, and power steering is available on some models. Front disc brakes and rear drum brakes are fitted to all models. The engine compartment is well-designed, and most of the items requiring frequent attention are easily accessible.
