This manual covers 1999 through 2008 Hyundai Sonata models. These vehicles are equipped with either a 2.4L four-cylinder engine, a 2.5L V6 engine, a 2.7L V6 engine or a 3.3L V6 engine.
The engine drives the front wheels through either a four or five speed automatic or a five speed manual transaxle via independent driveaxles.
Suspension is independent at all four wheels, with coil-over shock absorbers used at the front and coil springs with conventional shock absorbers (2006 and later models) or coil-over shock absorbers (2005 and earlier models) at the rear. The rack-and-pinion steering unit is mounted on the suspension sub- frame.
The brakes are disc at the front and either disc or drum at the rear. Power assist is standard on all models. An Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) is standard equipment on some models and is available as an option on others.
