Description

By Eoin Young, Hardcover, 224 Pages, ISBN: 9781852604608, 1st Edition, 1996 (Second Hand in perfect condition)

- personally signed  by late Kiwi author Eoin Young

Here is the fascinating, and often hilarious, story of Eoin Young's career reporting on 35 years of international motorsport. Autocar columnist since 1967, and personal friends with many of the world's top racing drivers over the years, he gives an insider's view of this exciting world, from the more relaxed 1960s through to the present big-money, high-tech scene. All the major races are included — from the glitz of the Monaco Grand Prix to the slog of the Le Mans 24-hour race, the razzmatazz of the Indianapolis 500, the thunder of the big Can-Am sports-racing cars, and the Tasman races in New Zealand and Australia.

A New Zealander, Eoin Young came to Britain in 1961 as a freelance journalist. He was taken on a tour of the European Formula Junior circuits by fellow countryman Denny Hulme, who went on to become World Champion six years later, and in 1962 joined Bruce Mclaren as his secretary, becoming a founder director of Bruce McLaren Motor Racing.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s he worked as Director of Motor Racing Press Relations with the American Gulf Oil Corporation, then moved to the French Elf Oil Company, working with the Tyrrell team, who were based near to his home in East Horsley, Surrey. He also established his mail order Specialist Book Broking Service, that satisfied the desires of his motoring peers and fellow enthusiasts until ultimately settling down in his beloved New Zealand.
Eoin Young, who passed away recently, tells stories of the drivers, cars, teams and races, and shares anecdotes from long dinners at a thousand restaurants around the world. It is privileged reading.
