Description

Author: Walter M.P. McCall, Hardbound, 448 Pages, ISBN:9780912612171, First Published, 1982 - Second-Hand book in excellent unread condition !

Publication of this book is the realization of a long-held ambition to provide for all admirers of the marque a single, authoratative reference source that presents, in chronological sequence, a photographic record of each and every standard production model and body style produced over the fourscore years the Cadillac Motor Car Division has been in existence. An undertaking of this magnitude, of course, requires much planning, research and the co-operation of many people. My sincere gratitude, therefore, is extended to the following:

To the many fine people at Cadillac who cheerfully accommodated my frequent research visits to 2860 Clark Avenue in Detroit since 1976, especially former Cadillac Motor Car Division Public Relations Director William J. Knight and his capable and helpful assistant, Norbert Bartos, as well as the PR secretaries who were endlessly opening the archives room for me and fetching various bulging file folders:

The Automobile History Collection of the Detroit Public Library, the late James J. Bradley and his staff ior access to the trove of early Cadillac material in the 9aperb Nathan Lazernick Collection, as well as early mato industry trade journals:
My valued, longtime friend and fellow Cadillac enthusiast Thomas A. McPherson for his generous anaributions of photos and material for this book, and ix making it all possible by introducing the indersigned to Crestline Publisher George H. Dammann:

To all others who freely offered photos, information and ideas, including: Albert J. Burch, who was there at Fisher Body when all this was happening; Rick Lenz; Kevin McCabe, David C. Beveridge, Steven B. Loftin, Al Judge, James K. Wagner, Don Butler, Joel C. Woods, Steven Hagy, Dan G. Martin, Kenneth H. Arksey, John G. Linhardt, The Professional Car Society and PCS members Tom Parkinson and Dr. Rodger D. White; the Craven Foundation; Eureka Coach Co. Ltd., Mel Stein and his AHA Mfg. Co., Clarence C. Woodard and American Custom Coachworks.

Most of the photographic and statistical data used in this publication came directly from the Cadillac Motor Car Division's own archives and records. Model numbers, prices and weights were culled from the Branham Automobile Reference Books in the Detroit Public Library Auto History Collection.

While the emphasis in this text is on production models actually offered to the public through the Cadillac-LaSalle dealer organization, we have endeavored to include a selection of prototypes, customs and semi-customs, one-offs, specials and conversions. Similarly, because of the significant aspect of Cadillac's business represented by commercial chassis production since the mid-1930's, we have included at the end of each chapter a cross-section of Cadillac-chassised funeral cars and ambulances. These professional cars are covered in greater detail in another Crestline publication, "American Funeral Cars and Ambulances" by Thomas A. McPherson.

Finally, my heartfelt thanks to my good wife Denise, a longtime General Motors of Canada Ltd. employee who finish-typed much of the original manuscript.
