- Tips to ensure correct restoration, covers every major component, decode stampings and part numbers, includes accessory codes and production numbers

This book is intended to provide restorers of 1968-1982 II Corvettes with the technical information needed to return these cars to the exact configurations they were in at the time of final delivery by Chevrolet Motor Division. This is not a how-to manual, however. Rather, it is a compendium of information about how the cars were originally built, including available options, exterior and interior colors and materials, correct components and their respective factory finishes, part numbers, casting numbers, date codes, and the like.

The book will not tell you how to do a restoration procedure, but it will tell you where and how to read original part numbers and date codes, what parts your restoration procedures should be done with, and how those parts should look when you are finished.

Owing to the explosive popularity of the 1968-1982 models, an ever-expanding body of published information is available to assist the restorer. To obtain the greatest benefit from this restoration guide, it should be used in conjunction
Society for the invaluable work its members and leaders have done in gathering, preserving, and disseminating a wealth of information about the Corvettes we all love so much. And last but certainly not least, I offer a sincere thank-you to the men and woman at General Motors, who have labored long and hard to make Corvette the pride of America and, without qualification, the best sports car in the world with some of these other valuable resources. Among them are Chevrolet's chassis service, chassis overhaul, and shop manuals. These provide detailed instructions, diagrams, and specifications for component service, repair, and overhaul.

Though it does not provide how-to instructions per se, another invaluable companion to this restoration guide is Chevrolet's Corvette Assembly Instruction Manual, available for each year of production. Each manual is an exact reprint of the assembly instructions that production line workers used to build the cars.

Each manual contains hundreds of exploded drawings showing how virtually every part of a Corvette goes together.
These materials, as well as many others, are readily available from any major Corvette restoration parts supplier. They complement this restoration guide perfectly in that they will show you how to do many of the procedures commonly performed during a comprehensive restoration.
