Authors: Doug Wallace and Michele Cook, Hardbound, 400 Pages, ISBN: 9781742577081 -- Published in 2016, 2nd hand book in acceptable condition

This  book chronicles the 88 years in which Ford built cars in Australia for Australian conditions and interviews many of the people who worked for the company. On March 31, 1925, US manufacturer Ford announced that Geelong would be the Australian headquarters of its local production. The first Australian-built Ford was a Model T that came off an improvised production line in a disused Geelong woolstore in June 1925, while work started on a factory in the nearby suburb of Norlane.

In 1928 the factory switched to the Model A and was followed by the Ford V8 in 1932. In 1956 the company bought a large tract of land in the northern Melbourne suburb of Broadmeadows, and in July 1961 announced that the new Melbourne factory would become the company headquarters. On the 23 May 2013, Ford announced that its factories in Geelong and Broadmeadows would be closed down in October 2016.

This is the second copy I have purchased, and I bought this copy on behalf of a very good friend who worked for Ford Australia from 1944 - 1992. He is most impressed.

This is a great publication! My main interest is in the early years, having had an interest in Ford history for over 50 years. I am very pleased to ad this one to my collection of Ford books. Michele and Doug have put together a lasting legacy to Ford Motor Co., Australia.

Ford Australia: The Cars and the People That Built Them

After two months and eleven days I finally received my new book! It looks like a nice comprehensive book on Ford in Australia. It just takes a long time to get a book to Florida from Australia.

Great book, but some sloppy errors and "lazy" photos.

7/10. Be aware that many photos are simply those taken from the brochures, so we have seen much of them already. There are also quite a number of errors throughout, which does tend to indicate lazy research.

    Interesting history

Posted by Michael C. on 17th Aug 2016

Bought this book for a family member who has just purchased an XR8 Sprint. He has read through the first half of the book quite quickly. The early history of Ford Australia is very interesting. The book covers the history of various characters involved in bringing Fords to Australia, some moving the operation ahead, some costing it a lot. It also at least touches upon the various negotiations with government to help fund an Aussie car industry. Many things happened in that early history that one would not expect, making for an interesting account. Also of course the book covers the history of the mighty Falcon, and the changes that the Aussies made from the very outset to make the Aussie Falcon a substantially better car than the US Falcon it was originally derived from. The later history of Ford he has not read yet, but for that early history alone its worth 4 stars. The book is also very well presented, and makes an excellent gift.

I work at Ford Motor Co & tried all the usual outlets. Was so pleased I found someone who sold this incredible book detailing the history of Ford Motor Company at a sensible, non-inflated price.
