Description

ISBN: 9788879115650, Author: Forghieri M and Buzzonetti, Hardbound, 303 Pages, 1st English Languge Edition Published 2013

Many of the Ferrari single seaters and sports racers that won world championships were born of the imagination of Mauro Forghieri and designed by him. That was the case with the John Surtees 1964 158 F1 and the unbeatable Ts of the Lauda-Regazzoni era. The same can be said of the 250 P, the 330 P3 and P4, as well, naturally, as the 312 ‘PB’, the unquestioned protagonists among the sports racing cars of the 1960s and 1970s. The life of the outstanding Mauro Forghieri is told in this book, in which noted stories, especially those that have remained unpublished for years, intertwine in an riveting narrative, supported by a wealth of absolutely unpublished illustrations, a large portion of which come from the publisher’s archives.

Born in Modena, Forhieri joined Ferrari in January 1960 having just graduated in mechanical engineering from the University of Bologna. Less than two years later, he became Ferrari's chief technician and head of the Racing Department and retained those positions until 1984. Prominent in a long list of successes achieved by his cars are 54 Grand Prix victories, four: Formula 1 World Championships for drivers and seven for constructors. His cars also earned Ferrari four speed and endurance challenge titles, two World Sports Car Championships, three GT Constructors' Championships and three Prototype GT titles. limm 1985 until May 1987, Forghieri worked for Ferrari Engineering, after which he competed in Formula 1 again with Larnborghini Engineering. Following a period with Bugatti, he established Oral Engineering in Modena for the design and construction of prototypes, where he continues to work full time.

Originally from Parma, Buzzonetti began his journalistic career in motoring in Rome in 1970. He combined his interest in motor racing with those in production and history He joined the publisher of the Italian motor sport weekly Autosprint in 1976, held various positions in its editorial offices and at the racing circuits including that of Formula 1 correspondent until 1987. He later became deputy editor of the monthly Auto and editor of Genie Motori. He continued his career as deputy editor of AM-Automese to then return to Autosprint as deputy editor at the start of' 2000. Simultaneously, from 1998 until 2009 he was the author of newsletters for the Ferrari Challenge. More recently, Buzzonetti has edited the weekly Sportauto and Sportmoto. He is the author of various books, among them Formula I 1950-2007, Mauro For,ghieri. 30 anni di Ferrari e oltre and Milk Miglia.
