Lewis Hamilton came into this season as the reigning Formula One World Champion, whilst Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg had his total focus on challenging for the title he had come so close to winning in 2014. In the end, it was Lewis who prevailed again, equalling hero Ayrton Senna's three Formula One World Championships and becoming the first British driver to take consecutive titles.

After four wins out of five races, Mercedes looked to have things under control, but Nico's Monaco victory tested team relations to the limit. Five months later, after a series of races of fluctuating fortunes and wheel-to-wheel action, Lewis took the chequered flag in the United States to retain his crown. Nico fought on, taking pole in the last six Grands Prix, and victory in the final three.

For the first time since 1992. Formula One returned triumphantly to Mexico. The venue and the crowds were spectacular and the 20 drivers put on a great show for more than 300.000 adoring fans.

Ferrari were the season's surprise: spurred on by Sebastian Vettet who, in only his second race wearing red, won for the Scuderia in Malaysia, and with two further victories again established himself as a championship contender.

Formula One's youngest driver Max Verstappen impressed throughout the season. With his ability to exploit any overtaking opportunity. he quickly gained a reputation as one of the grid's most exciting new talents.
