ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
This Honda RC30 Performance Portfolio is the sixth title to be published covering the marque. It was not surprising that yet again Honda had achieved another `first' in producing this, the first real racing bike to be street legal.

The RC30 although completely different to other `firsts', had achieved something that was not unique to the company - a bike built from the heart. Every motorcycle company seems to be able to produce a bike which shouts its name and this one screams `Honda'.

Initially built to be competitive in the Suzuka 8-hour race, the huge `flag-waving' event for the motorcycle industry, it was here that the idea of this factory looking, street-endurance race-bike was born. It was imperative that in producing such a bike it didn't bankrupt the company. The first 1,000 sold within Japan, the next 3,000 were all ordered in advance and the price tag was high to keep the riff-raff out. And what did you get for your money? A very petite, light, neat, clutter-free machine just itching to get out on the open road . . . very quickly.

If you are familiar with Brooklands Books you will know that our aim is to gather information from all over the globe and, in doing so, create a living archive which in turn we can make available to enthusiasts. Literature, which due to time, has become hard to find. In compiling such books as these we depend on the generosity and understanding of the original writers, photographers and, of course, the publishers of the original journals whose copyright material is reprinted here. In this instance our thanks go to the management of Australian Motorcycle News, Bike, Cycle Canada, Cycle World, Cycle World Buyer's Guide, Motorcycle International, Motorcycle Review, Motorcyclist, Performance Bikes, Superbike and Two Wheels for their ongoing support.
