Description

Author: Liz Turner, ISBN: 9781844256983, 192 pages, Hardbound, published in 2009, H4698

Few modern cars are as universally loved as the MX-5. Men love it, women love it. Enthusiastic owners' clubs have formed all over the world, meeting up to show off their choice of accessories, to compete in autocross, circuit racing and even drifting, or simply to have a chat. Why? Because it looks great; its handling is a delight; it's reliable and it's affordable. You don't need a fun car and an everyday car if you own an MX-5; it's both. So it's not an overstatement to say that this little car has brought true driving delight to the masses.

Remarkably the owners of all three generations all mingle happily and, in the UK, personally imported Japanese Roadsters are welcomed equally with the official machines.
The creation of the MX-5/Miata took imagination and brilliance on the part of the engineers and designers responsible for it — and of the management who not only allowed them to do it once but also ensured continuity by calling back team members from each generation to work on the next.

This book includes interviews with many of those involved in the development of all three generations. However, it also gives a voice to enthusiasts who have set up aftermarket companies to push the limits of performance and visual modifications. The opinions and photos of club members worldwide are also featured throughout.

Liz Turner regards getting behind the wheel of an MK-5 on its 1990 launch in Greece as a highlight of her long career as a motoring journalist. She worked on the staff of Autocar for four years and What Car? for five. During her freelance years she worked for a large number of UK car magazines including Car and Classic & Sports Car, plus the motoring pages of The Guardian, The Independent and The Sun. During four years living and working in the United States, she became motoring correspondent for The New York Post and tried a brand-new Mk3 MX-5 on the icy roads of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

On returning to the UK, she needed a car — and a 1995 Eunos S Special in Brilliant Black slotted perfectly into the drive. Liz wrote You & Your Mazda MX-5/ Miata for Haynes in 2002, and updated it in 2006. The book has now been thoroughly revised and updated to create this Haynes Enthusiast Guide on the MX-5/Miata, including the Mk3 and 2009 facelift.
