Description

Author: Philip Porter Hardbound, 96 Pages, ISBN: 9781870979054, 1st Edition, 1988 -Second-Hand book in good condition

My Jaguar XK120 has the wrong instrumentation, but what is authentic ? Should the engine block really be that colour ? I want the seats re-trimmed, but what is the correct material ?

All owners face questions like these when restoring classic cars, but the answers can be hard to find. Now help is at hand for Jaguar XK owners and restorers from Original Jaguar XK, the first in a new series.

As enthusiasm for classic cars has grown, accompanied by appreciating values, more cars are being brought back to first-class condition by individuals and professional restorers. Since a car with completely original and authentic specification is always the most desirable among enthusiasts, great care has been taken to seek evidence, to every last detail, of how a car should look and which parts it should contain.

Drawing from factory records, manuals, catalogues and parts lists, and the combined knowledge of a panel of XK experts, this book provides the evidence of what constitutes an authentic Jaguar XK. More than 150 high quality colour photographs show every inch of our carefully selected cars.

All nine XK models — the roadster, drophead coupe and fixed-head coupe body styles of XK120, XK140 and XK150 — are illustrated in superb detail.

The definitive originality guide to one of Britain's greatest sports cars, Original Jaguar XK is indispensable for all owners, restorers, buyers and enthusiasts.

Philip Porter is uniquely qualified to write this book.

He has been immersed in Jaguars since childhood, and an early memory is his first run in his father's XK120. Since then he has accumulated a Jaguar collection which embraces five XKs — roadster and fixed-head coupe XK120s, roadster and drophead coupe XKI4Os and a fixed-head coupe XK150 — as well as the first, second and twelfth E-types built.

He founded the Midlands Area of the Jaguar Drivers Club in 1973, he was the first chairman of the E-type Register, and he has edited XK Bulletin and Jaguar Driver.

After a period in business that included running a Jaguar restoration company, he is now a full-time writer, specialising in Jaguar subjects. This is his fifth book devoted to the marque; past works include Jaguar: The Complete Illustrated History and Jaguar Project Xj40: The Inside Story of the New XJ6.
He lives in a restored Tudor farmhouse in Worcestershire, and fits ballooning and active membership of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London into his spare time.

Tim Andrew is one of Britain's leading car photographers whose work has appeared regularly in Performance Car, Autocar and Classic and Sportscar. He shot all the photographs in this book on Kodachrome film, using Nikon FE2 35mm cameras.
