Description

Author: F. Wilson McComb, Hardbound, 319 Pages, ISBN: 9780850455984 , Second Edition, 1984 - Second-Hand book in good condition**

The MG has been one of the marques most closely identified with the two-seater sports car, and this book describes the MG from in origination in 1922 to the present day.'

This, the second Osprey Publishing edition of MG by McComb, brings the fascinating story bang up-to-date. Since the sad closing of the Abingdon factory and the end of production of the 'real' M.G.s there has, in fact, been much to be glad about—the famous sports car marque lives on with four cars currently (1984, that is) being produced with the octagon on their fronts—the Metro, the Metro Turbo, the Maestro and the Montego.

The factory closure and the development of the four new models are handsomely covered in this new edition. Once again we are proud to offer the 'best' book on the M.G. It's still the standard work and it's still the most entertaining read of all.

Here's some of what we said about the first edition: 'Like Hoover and Coca-Cola, the word M.G. too, has passed into the language. M.G. has come to mean "sports car". Here is the full story of those cars which have made that household word.
'McComb tells of the marque with humble origins which seduced the world into its romance with the open two-seater.

He tells it with an authentic intimacy, having worked for the company for ten years and spent many more researching the subject further. We read of the founder's life, the first M.G., the great racing and record breaking years pre-war, the business and management life, all the production cars and the famous "Abingdon atmosphere".

'All is presented in a wealth of detail, with comment which is sometimes irreverent, often outspoken but always substantiated.'

Over 200 photographs supplement this account and appendices provide technical data, production figures and major M.G. successes in competition.

About the author

F. Wilson McComb has unrivalled qualifications to write the M.G. story. Apart from being a 'full-time sports car enthusiast' he has been a motoring journalist for thirty years.

For ten years he worked for the M.G. Car Company Limited, being employed there to start and then edit the company magazine Safety Fast. He was then General• Secretary of the international M.G. Car Club and started the MGCC Vintage Register. He has both raced and restored M.G.s too.

In short he is more steeped in M.G. lore than any other professional writer. Yet Wilson is a professional writer who will not let the truth lie sleeping under a veil of blind enthusiasm.

He had long spells with Autosport and Autocourse and his successful freelancing career has since involved him with many more. He has authored a number of other books too.
