To every Australian motorsport enthusiast,

Welcome to THE ANNUAL!

You'll have to excuse me. I was a little selfish when I created THE ANNUAL. As a motorsport fan since my days in nappies, and now a full-time racing journalist, I needed this magazine.

THE ANNUAL — Australian Motorsport is a record of every national-based motor racing championship and series in Australia. Every round. Every category.

There's something for everyone. Race results, reports and photos. THE ANNUAL is a clear and concise reference tool that can be used for years to come.

Australia's national racing championships are of world-standard, and that goes right from the top to the bottom of pit lane. The V8 Supercars continue to build a category recognised as arguably the best touring car championship in the world. Not a bad feat for a country of 20 million. And consider ourselves even luckier when you factor in the variety of support classes across the board in Australia. There is certainly no shortage of choice when it comes to selecting a category to race in. Do we have too many classes? Maybe, but most are at a strong and self-sustaining level, which is all you can really ask for.

Coupled with the professional manner of all those in and around the industry. I can safely say that I'm privileged to be involved in the Australian motor racing scene.

Now, I'll take this opportunity to acknowledge the 1000s and 1000s of state-based racers in Australia. Although they are not covered in this inaugural magazine. I hope that the grass-roots categories and competitors
can — one day — be involved in THE ANNUAL in some capacity. You are not forgotten.

And hey. you've got to start somewhere. You only have to look at the incredible depth of opportunity and success Australian drivers and riders have had on the world scene in 2005. For more,
check out the Aussies Overseas section. It's my favourite. And for most of those Australians in that section. their journeys have only just begun ...

I hope everyone gets as much out of THE ANNUAL as I will. Be sure to tap me on the shoulder and tell me the bits you like, love or loathe.

Happy Days.

Grant Rowley
