Foreword

The success that Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG has achieved today would be unthinkable without the life's work that Ferry Porsche (1909-1998) devoted to the company. Under his management, the design office established in 1931 by his father Ferdinand Porsche grew into an independent automobile manufacturer. The first sports car bearing the Porsche name was built in 1948. With the Porsche 356 and the later 911, Ferry Porsche systematically transformed his dream of "driving in its finest form" into reality. With a sure hand, he shaped the fundamental principles that still govern Porsche's brand values today. As General Manager and later Chairman of the Supervisory Board, he gave the company its character for a period of fifty years. It is above all thanks to his efforts as a notable visionary and businessman that Porsche developed in to one of the world's leading sports car manufacturers.

When Professor Dr. Ing. h.c. Ferdinand Anton Ernst Porsche died on March 27, 1998, the automotive world lost one of its last great men. His lifelong activity on behalf of the automobile earned him a place in the 'European Automotive Hall of Fame', and his name is mentioned in the same breath as other notable personalities such as Gottlieb Daimler, Carl Benz, Henry Ford and Enzo Ferrari. The centenary of Ferry Porsche's birth falls on September 19, 2009.
