A prominent administrator, journalist and historian intimately involved in British speedway for 30 years, Martin and his wife Lin were promoters at Leicester, King's Lynn and Peterborough before moving to Australia in 1988. Among the 20 sporting titles he has written and/or edited, The Illustrated History of Speedway is one of the top-selling speedway books of all time. Ivan Mauger is the fourth world champion with whom he has collaborated, the others being Barry Briggs, Bruce Penhall and Jason Crump.
