Description

By: Alfred Price .

Description

When The Spitfire Story was first published in 1982 its author, the acclaimed aviation historian Alfred Price, told the story of the Spitfire in far greater depth and detail than anything previously attempted. He included much new documentary material never before reproduced in print — and previously not known to exist — which he discovered during extensive research of archives in Britain and overseas. In this fully revised new edition, published in the 70th anniversary year of the Battle of Britain, Spitfire aficionados old and new can again read about the life and times of the greatest fighter aircraft ever built.

Alfred Price's authoritative narrative tells the Spitfire story, from its conception by Supermarine designer Reginald J. Mitchell and his brilliant design team, through its birth and production, to the uniquely far-reaching development of the basic design carried forward under the inspired direction of Mitchell's successor, Joe Smith.

A rich selection of more than 250 archive photographs and illustrations from personal and public collections complement the narrative, bringing to life the Spitfire story.
