Description

By: Mike Mueller .

When Chevrolet created an intermediate car on General Motors' A-body in the early sixties, it created the Chevelle, a car that became a legendary bowtie muscle car, particularly in its Super Sport configurations.
Wearing modest "SS" badges but packing tremendous small-block and big-block power, Chevelle SS models commanded attention and respect on the street. They were the epitome of true muscle cars, and their performance legacy lives on among avid collectors and restorers.

Chevelle 1964-1972 tells the fascinating history of the Chevrolet "intermediate" that started as a boxy but feisty car and evolved into the sculpted king of street muscle. With high-performance small- blocks and legendary big-blocks like the 396, 427, and mighty 454, Chevelles embodied Chevrolet's Super Sport performance and image.

More than 120 color and black and white photos show the classic and rare Chevelles in original form and fresh from authentic restorations. Their developmental history is presented with stories from Chevrolet's design and engineering departments, magazine test reports, and production and sales data.
Also covered in great detail is the story of Don Yenko's specials, among the most powerful and collectible Chevelles.

Author Mike Mueller has written several books, many with a focus on muscle cars. He is a contributor to automotive magazines and his car and truck photography has been featured in several books.
