Description

Authors: Doug Wallace and Michele Cook, Hardbound, 400 Pages, ISBN: 9781742577081 - Silpcased - Published in 2016,

This  book chronicles the 88 years in which Ford built cars in Australia for Australian conditions and interviews many of the people who worked for the company. It constitutes the complete history of Ford production in this country, with many rare images and essential production statistics. The perfect book for every Ford enthusiast, or anyone with an affinity for cars or industrial Australia

On March 31, 1925, US manufacturer Ford announced that Geelong would be the Australian headquarters of its local production. The first Australian-built Ford was a Model T that came off an improvised production line in a disused Geelong woolstore in June 1925, while work started on a factory in the nearby suburb of Norlane.

In 1928 the factory switched to the Model A and was followed by the Ford V8 in 1932. In 1956 the company bought a large tract of land in the northern Melbourne suburb of Broadmeadows, and in July 1961 announced that the new Melbourne factory would become the company headquarters. On the 23 May 2013, Ford announced that its factories in Geelong and Broadmeadows would be closed down in October 2016.

This book chronicles the 88 years in which Ford built cars in Australia for Australian conditions and interviews many of the people who worked for the company. It constitutes the complete history of Ford production in this country, with many rare images and essential production statistics. The perfect book for every Ford enthusiast, or anyone with an affinity for cars or industrial Australia.

Great seller. Great item. Highly recommended.

Posted by Marko L. on 19th Sep 2018

Items came in great condition. Shipping was super fast. Delivery was fast.
My only complaint is on high shipping costs. Item value vas EUR55.66 and shipping vas EUR71.39.

My suggestion is that maybe seller could investigate if there are any cheaper shipping options to Europe.
In the end, for those who can cope with high shipping cost, highly recommended seller. I would definitely buy again.

    Great book but.....

Posted by william d. on 13th Dec 2017

Presentation and packaging is excellent. There was too much emphasis on the Falcon (which I can understand), and very little on other Ford vehicles. The book that I bought some years ago on the Holden was exactly what I was looking for; many color photos of all Holden vehicles, specifications, etc.

Ford Australia ''The Cars and the People Who Built Them

Posted by Wayne T. on 31st Oct 2016

This is a thick & handsome book with many photos & informative text. It does contain many small errors with dates & of placing photos not in the era being discussed. There is a great picture shown of the striking Australia only Model A colours but no explanation
provided. If only the text sections could be proof read by people who know their Ford models & history.
Some of the early car photos show US type LHD models which would have been better if RHD Australian produced [of which many photos do exist] but in saying, there are a very good range of local historical photos as well. I have only looked closely at the era 1925- 50 which is my interest on Ford Australia.
Overall, a very good book to have on Ford Australia.

This is the second copy I have purchased, and I bought this copy on behalf of a very good friend who worked for Ford Australia from 1944 - 1992.
    He is most impressed.

This is a great publication! My main interest is in the early years, having had an interest in Ford history for over 50 years. I am very pleased to ad this one to my collection of Ford books. Michele and Doug have put together a lasting legacy to Ford Motor Co., Australia.
